The Ion Luca Caragiale Museum in Ploiești, department of the Prahova County Museum of History and Archaeology, was inaugurated in 1962, at the 110th anniversary since the birth of the great playwright, in the 18th century architectural monument, the Dobrescu House. The permanent exhibition illustrates moments from the life and work of the writer, reconstructing with objects and original manuscripts the ambience in which the great plays, short stories and the monumental “moments and sketches” were created.
In the first room are exposed documents and original photographs that largely clarify the issue of the classes I.L.Caragiale graduated in Ploiesti. The writer's houses ambience and that of his working room is reconstituted in the second room by exposing museum pieces that belonged to the writer and his family: crystal mirror, wooden table with decoration done by carving, a sofa and two chairs etc.
On the working table, next to the pen and the inkwell, it is the manuscript of the parody „Dă dămult.... mai dă dămult...”; in silver frames are exposed some original photographs of family members and close friends of the playwright.
In the last room is presented chronologically the creative activity of the great writer; his great dramatic creations:„O noapte furtunoasă”, „O scrisoare pierdută”, „D′ale carnavalului”, „Conu Leonida faţă cu reacţiunea”, „Năpasta”.The period of Caragialean great novels and sketches also occupies a distinct role in the exhibition.Princeps editions, autographed by writer of the volumes „Teatru”, „Momente”, „Schiţe noue”,are presented next to some photos that bring a new light over the friendly ties of the writer.
Translations of the writer's work are exhibited in different languages,interpretation's postersof Caragiale's comedies in the world : France, Japan, Spain, Italy, Belgium.
The exhibition concludes with works of his sons,the writers MateiuCaragiale(„Crai de curte veche”) and Luca I.Caragiale („Jocul Oglinzilor”).
